Taare Zameen Par DVD Review— Aamir Khan’s Gift To TZP Fans

The wait for the DVD has finally come to an end for fans of Taare Zameen Par (TZP). One of the finest films in our recent times, TZP opened to critical acclaim and low box-office buzz because it released along with the mass-entertainer Welcome. At that time Aamir said that once the Welcome effect wanes, TZP will shine. That is exactly what happened even earlier than predicted. TZP went on to become a blockbuster at the box-office too.

TZP, which released during Christmas 2007, created a sort of awakening in the society with regard to parent’s pressure on their kids academics. Although the film is about a kid with learning disorders, the film is a statement on how parents and the society has ceased to nurture unique talents in kids. The film’s message, story, performances, and direction sends out an emotional message that is bound to touch your heart. The performance of Darsheel Safary created a sensation in India and there was buzz that he must be allowed to compete along with the others in the Best Actor category of the Filmfare Awards.

Aamir said that he is busy working on the DVD, a while back, and he has kept his promise by delivering a gem of a DVD. It is bound to go beyond your expectations. The DVD has been packaged more like a textbook or a board game box…yes, its huge. The package contains:

(i) two big-size high quality prints from the film (Ishaan’s Painting, and Nikumbh’s Painting)

(ii) ishaan’s filpbook—remember? it is a heart-touching scene.

(iii) Ishaan’s book; the highlight is a school label designed on the book (taking you straight back to school in a fraction of a second with a big smile on your face). The book contains Ishaan’s notes on all the characters of the film.

(iv) A TZP inscribed pencil.

(v) Two DVDs: the film, and special features; and a Audio CD of the Background music. Total three discks.

Other Special Features include:

(i) director’s commentary, panel discussion on children with Aamir khan in a discussion with experts, deleted scenes and why they didn’t make it to the film, making of the film, and promos, trailers, and stills.

The quality of the packaging, the colors and photographs used are superb. Full credit to T-Series for designing such a beautiful collector’s edition of the Taare Zameen Par DVD.

The Flipside: Although, it gives TZP fans a larger-than-DVD experience, the package is too big to handle. It will not fit in your regular CD or DVD holder or cabinet. It would have great if the DVD was packed in a regular size DVD pack within this magnificently large package. In addition, the dvd holder is too tight; when taking out the dvd you might feel scared that it might break. I wish this was smoother else over the time DVD will start chipping away.

This is one of the rare Bollywood films, which has its own fan followilng. For such fans, this DVD is a must. Thank you Aamir and T-Series for providing such world-class Home Entertainment. I haven’t seen any Hollywood film DVD packaged like this either.

The entire package containing Two DVD Video and One Audio CD is priced at Rs. 499/-; Anamorphic Widescreen DVD, Dolby Digital 5.1, English subtitles, and Universal Region. TZP VCDs are also available.

though the dvd cover says it is Universal Regions, when you put it into a computer it shows that it is actually authored for Region 5. So be sure about your DVD player and decide to buy. post a comment on this blog if you need any more info about dvd regions and players.

    thanks. hope this helps.
